Teen Weight Loss Success Tips

Set a Reasonable Goal.

A realistic rate of weight loss is between 1 to 2 pounds per week. Losing weight more rapidly could mean you are losing muscle mass instead of actual body fat.

Consume Enough Calories

Many teens try to lose weight rapidly by severely restricting their calorie intake. This will actually stall weight loss and will eventually bring your body’s fat burning abilities to a stop. A good rule of thumb is to aim for around 1,300 calories per day. However, this amount can very depending on your body type and activity level.

Ask Your Family for Support

Once you make the decision to lose weight, have a talk with your family and explain your goals. They can help you achieve your goals by purchasing more nutritious foods and learning healthier ways of preparing meals. It would also be helpful for your family to make a rule of not allowing unhealthy foods to be present in the home.

Block Out Unrealistic Images

Many fashion magazines airbrush their models to make them appear to be ‘perfect’. This can be a damaging practice by instilling false ideals of what fitness is all about. Being healthy and fit is not about how thin you can become. It is about making healthy choices to achieve your own personal optimal weight.

Make Time for Exercise

Successful weight loss is a combination of proper nutrition choices and ample physical activity. Aim for at least 60 minutes of exercise per day. This can be as simple as taking your dog for a walk every evening or getting your friends together for a game of backyard football.

Lose Weight Because You Want To

With today’s image issues, many teens feel obligated to lose weight to fit into the mold of what their peers feel they should look like. If you are personally uncomfortable with your weight, then your health and self esteem should be the only motivation you need to to get into shape.
