Refreshing Summer Drinks from Santa Monica Personal Training

Summer is the best time of year. Days are longer and I can head outside for a workout day or night. I don’t live far from the ocean so taking an after dinner walk to the beach is always a treat. When the weather is hot, I’m always looking for a great low, or no, calorie beverage that doesn’t sacrifice great taste. Here are a few of my favorite recipes for ultra-low-calorie drinks which won’t blow your diet. Sparkling water is a great way to add some pizazz to any drink. Arrowhead® Brand Sparkling Mountain Spring Water makes several different varieties, all of which are zero calories and contain only spring water, natural fruit flavors and bubbles.

Mint Cucumber Green Tea

Iced Mint Green Tea

Serves 4

  • 32 oz. unsweetened green tea, either refrigerated or at room temperature if you brew it yourself.
  • 12 mint leaves – you can use any type of mint, spearmint and peppermint are popular choices and easy to find at the grocery store or can be grown at home.
  • 8 slices cucumber
  • 2 fresh limes, juiced
  • liquid stevia drops
  • ice
  • Optional: extra lime slices and mint leaves for garnish

Instructions

  • Squeeze the lime juice into a glass.
  • Add the mint leaves to the glass and muddle until the leaves are slightly bruised. You can also use the back of a spoon if you don’t have a muddle.
  • Add the cucumber slices
  • Fill the glass with ice
  • Add the green tea
  • Add stevia to taste
  • Stir well and garnish with additional mint leaves and lime slices, if desired.

Sparkling Raspberry Margaritas

Sparkling Raspberry Lime Margarita

Serves 4
(You can add a low-calorie tequila like Skinny Girl, if you want, but I prefer my drinks non-alcoholic.)

  • 16 ounces Raspberry-Lime Arrowhead® Brand Sparkling Mountain Spring Water
  • 16 ounces Sugar-Free Margarita Mix (I used “On the House” from Ralph’s grocery store, or try Baja Bob’s or similar)
  • 1 fresh lime, sliced thin
  • fresh raspberries, optional for garnishing
  • ice cubes

Instructions

  • Add ice to glass
  • Add sparkling water and margarita mix to glass
  • Garnish with other lime slices or raspberries
  • Serve immediately
